Some bamboo facts that we think are pretty cool.

Bamboo is a pretty impressive plant, ecologically speaking. It is naturally pest resistant, which means no pesticides are needed to grow it. With its shallow root system, it helps to build and retain eroded soil. It is antibacterial, antifungal and requires far less water than similar plants.  Bamboo does not need to be replanted after it's harvested, it will simply regrow from the existing root system. It will regrow to its adult plant size (up to 75 feet tall) in 3 to 5 years. It can grow as much as 2 feet in one day! This is considerably faster than the fastest growing trees. Bamboo is super strong - even stronger than steel. The tensile strength of steel is 23,000 PSI, while the tensile strength of bamboo is 28,000 PSI.

One of the biggest benefits of bamboo is its impact, or lack thereof, on the environment. It has an amazing ability to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Compared to an equivalent tree, bamboo produces 35% more oxygen and research has shown that bamboo can absorb as much as 12 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare per year. That is a huge amount of carbon sequestration and an enormous benefit to our environment.
